Google Maps allows students to connect abstract concepts with actual locations, enhancing spatiality and knowledge of context. For example, geography students can learn about topography, climate belts, and urban expansion in different parts of the globe in real-time. In history class, students can go on virtual tours of historic sites, expanding their knowledge through interactive virtual fieldtrips.

The placing factor of Google Maps is the way in which it can position learners in authentic, real-life situations.
